Self-esteem

Self-esteem generally develops from childhood experience. So any persistent feelings of low self-worth have likely been with you for some time. Self-esteem therapy and counseling can help you uncover the root causes of your feelings and approach them with confidence.

When you have high self-esteem you feel self-assured, believe yourself to be valuable, and accept and respect yourself. This leads to a healthier sense of self-worth.

Low self-esteem is often accompanied with high levels of self-criticism and self-doubt.  This can sometimes lead to social isolation, repressed anger and shame. These can also be symptoms of other issues, including anxiety and depression. Counseling for self-esteem can help.

I find myself to be a humble person and I don’t talk about myself too much. Does that mean that I have low self-esteem?

Being humble is a virtue in almost every culture. But just because you are humble or do selfless acts doesn’t mean that you have low self-esteem. In many cases, you may have very high self-esteem and confidence.

Conversely, just because you are outgoing and claim to be independent on the outside doesn’t mean you have high self-esteem either. Ultimately, self-esteem is something that is a very internal thing for every individual.
